Dr. Davis Koh, DPT, MBA, GCS, CSCS
Dr. Koh’s career began as a staff physical therapist at UCLA Medical Center specializing in orthopedics, cardiac and neuro-rehabilitation, after which Dr. Koh became Board Certified as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist (less than 1% of all physical therapists in the U.S. have this classification). This distinction is earned, in part, by demonstrating years of experience and expertise in age-related diseases and injuries common to the geriatric population. He was then accepted to the prestigious Kaiser Permanente Orthopedic Residency Program where only six residents are accepted each year in Southern California.
After the residency program Dr. Koh went on to earn several more certifications in the fields of sports and orthopedics. Dr. Koh is the first and only Masters Level Full Body Certified physical therapist in Active Release Techniques© and Graston Techniques© in Orange County. In addition, Dr. Koh is is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist© (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and one of very few physical therapists certified as a Russian Kettlebell Instructor to instruct in Russian Kettlebell Training and as a Level I Battling Ropes Coach. Dr. Koh is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner and proficient in all 5 different types of Kinesiotape. His extensive training over the years has included studying different treatment techniques originating from Russia, Norway, France, Australia, and South America. Those techniques have focused on mysofascial release, spinal mobilization/manipulation, spinal fascial stretching, strength and conditioning, and nerve mobilization. Dr. Koh has also had extensive training in using multiple Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) techniques. Dr. Koh currently uses five different types of stainless steel instruments to aid with the manipulation/mobilization of soft tissue such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerve tissue.
Dr. Koh has been invited as a guest speaker for various organizations including the University of California-Irvine Dept. of Sports Medicine, multiple NSCA State Conferences, medical/nursing schools overseas, the California Association for Health Physical Education and Dance (CAHPERD), and the California Physical Therapy Association. Topics have focused on his expertise in shoulder, back, hip & knee injuries using soft-tissue techniques, stretches and kettlebell & battling ropes in rehabilitation as well as in business development and entrepreneurship. Dr. Koh has also been an invited consultant for companies such as Taylor-Made Golf and Skechers Shoe Company. Dr. Koh has published articles for national physical therapy magazines such as ADVANCE Magazine and others.
Dr. Koh was also a member of the Specialization Academy of Content Experts (SACE) which is responsible for creating questions for national board certification specialty examinations for the American Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Koh currently serves on the board of directors for Concorde College Physical Therapy Assistant School and USC’s Physical Therapy Alumni Association as President.
Dr. Koh specializes in soft-tissue injuries, sports biomechanics and in stabilization exercises especially for the shoulder, back, hip, knee, and ankle/foot complex. Because of his expertise, Dr. Koh is currently contracted by the U.S. Government to serve as an expert witness for pending government lawsuits/litigations.
In 2010, Dr. Koh was recognized as one of the Best Physical Therapists in Southern California by KCAL9/KTLA5 Television Stations in Los Angeles.
