Biography
Dr. Koh is a sports and orthopedic physical therapist with over 20 years of experience. He earned his B.S. in Physiological Sciences from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Master's and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees from the University of Southern California. In 2007 he earned an MBA from USC's Marshall School of Business. While at USC he served on faculty as a Teaching Assistant in Orthopedics, and he later founded KOH Education to teach clinicians and students.
Early in his career, Dr. Koh was a staff physical therapist at UCLA Medical Center before completing an Orthopedic Residency Program with Kaiser Permanente. His experience spans geriatric, orthopedic, sports, cardiac and neurological rehabilitation, pelvic health, burn and wound care, and neonatal physical therapy. He is a nationally Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist.
Hands-on care
Dr. Koh's clinical interests are manual techniques such as soft tissue mobilization, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization and joint mobilization, drawing on treatment approaches from around the world that are within the scope of physical therapy practice. He is certified in Fascial Manipulation, is a certified Graston Technique provider, and has completed training in spinal fascial stretching, myofascial stretching and fascial normalization techniques, including their use in pelvic floor care.
Strength and performance
Dr. Koh applies exercise science to help athletes improve performance. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and a former NSCA Southern California State Director and Regional Director for California, Hawaii and Arizona. He is a certified Russian Kettlebell Instructor (RKC), a Level 1 Heavy Ropes Coach, a Level 1 Sandbag Dynamic Variable Resistance Coach and a USA Weightlifting certified coach, and he is certified in Functional Movement Screening and Blood Flow Restriction exercise.
Teaching and the profession
Dr. Koh teaches continuing education for clinicians nationwide and has been an invited speaker at physical therapy and sports medicine programs, including USC, UC Irvine and Columbia University, and at conferences of the California Physical Therapy Association and the NSCA. He has served as President of the USC Physical Therapy Alumni Association, as a commencement speaker for the USC School of Physical Therapy, and on the program advisory boards of physical therapist assistant programs. He is a member of the APTA Specialization Academy of Content Experts, writing questions for the national board specialty examinations.
Sports medicine
Dr. Koh has served on medical teams for Team USA, working with the U.S. Olympic Training Centers in San Diego and Colorado Springs in sports including weightlifting, beach and indoor volleyball, boxing, gymnastics, taekwondo, sailing, bobsled and skeleton, cricket, and track and field, and has traveled internationally with these teams. He was part of the Team USA medical team for the Pan-American Games and has served on medical teams for professional beach volleyball, action sports and endurance events.
Entertainment
Dr. Koh has worked within the entertainment industry, assisting singers, stunt performers, Broadway actors, producers and Academy Award winners. He has been on national and international tours for So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, Taylor Swift, Black Sabbath, Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, The Chainsmokers, DJ Oliver Heldens and Ringling Bros.
