Sports Injury Prevention & Recovery

Sports injury physical therapy helps athletes recover from injuries, manage the strain of training, and lower the chance of getting hurt again. It is built around how you move and what your sport demands.

What is Sports Injury Prevention & Recovery?

Training and competing break down muscle, tendon and other soft tissue. Your body needs time and the right kind of work to repair and adapt, and skipping recovery can leave you more likely to get hurt in the next session.

At KOH Physical Therapy Lab, we specialize in biomechanics (how your body moves during your sport), exercise rehabilitation, and helping you return to your best level of function. Active recovery work can bring fresh blood flow to tired tissue and help muscles, tendons and ligaments get ready for the next hard effort.

Depending on your needs, a plan may include exercise rehabilitation, graded activity, manual therapy, performance assessment and modification, soft tissue work, taping, electrotherapy and, at our Irvine clinic, shockwave therapy.

Recovery

Why recovery matters for athletes

Active recovery helps restore areas of the body broken down by intense exercise. It brings fresh, nutrient-rich blood to soft tissue and helps clear built-up waste products, so muscles, tendons and ligaments can repair and be ready for more vigorous activity.

After you train, your body needs time to repair and refuel to adapt to the work. Intense workouts create small microtears in muscle, and a proper recovery period is needed to heal them and restore the muscle's energy (glycogen) stores. For athletes who train or compete regularly, managing soreness and fatigue keeps the next session or competition from being held back by exhaustion.
